Then why in the f*ck are you asking for peoples opinions?  You'be obviously made your mind up.

Unless you have something useful to add, you'be a better wat'cha you face.

Material arrives 2day.
I may of gotten lucky on the shings, my supplier was low on the 25yr'em's, so for a buck more/bungle, I'm getting the 35 yr ones.
My back can bitch about it all it wants, it's still sounds like a pretty good dealio.

After weighting all of the constructive advice given - I will be doubling up on the first row, running the first one upside down (old school) not that I think it necessary, given the pitch of my roof, and that I usually clear the roof snow off before melt down.
Passing on the tar paper or whathaveyou cuz no one in my real life that knows about or does roofing, uses it anymore.

Hold onto your panties - This is not to suggest that it would be a useless application, just that it prolly would be an overkill for my sitch.

My approach to the job has changed to stripping the length of the roof and working my way upward, instead of going at it from one side up, cuz it occurred to (no thanks to you roof stars) that instead of tarp-ing a smaller area if need be, I could temporarily tack down a line of new shings between the new and the old if stuck to do something for fear of rain.

Anywho - wish me luck
...or not.

Make sure to hang yourself during the finale of Hawaii 5-O MISS!

5-0 is mediocre at best, and you MISSED on your chance to tell me to break a leg.

Lowering ones expectations, lessens ones disappointments
...which should be everyone's guide to message boarding.

Roofing Facts & Myths for the non roofer:

I put forth a thread looking for tips, I got multi-layered bull crap that had nothing to do with the sitch that I was facing, so here is the practical proof of my all, just in case anyone reading this is so inclined to take on a re-shingling project of their own someday.

Facts:
The roof that I am replacing was last shingled near 30 yrs ago.
The original job was done without using tar paper.
As a weather guard - the first line (along the roofs edge) was double shingled.

Shingle application is pretty much common sense, with directions written on the packaging.

Myth:
Whatever useless crap that was posted in this thread, that does not relate to the 'Facts.

What have we learned?

Tards will be tards.  :lol

War you thinking you're the fvcking message board messiah.

Why the fvck are you asking for roofing advice on a Jim Roam message board in the first place.  Go join a handy man or roofing forum if you're that serious.

No, you may not, now stop stalking me creep.

A couple of Facts.
One surprisingly enough was posted in this thread - No nail gun.
The other - also run a starter strip up each side of the roof.

Half way there  :drink

You nailed it, bro.
Come to think of it, you may of been the only one in here who did.

Fact:
Make sure that the first row is run straight. Chalk line, string, whatever.
...other wise your roof job will wave like it was done by a drunk.  :-[

Thankfully it's my back roof :hic
