Both Barry & E.J. seem to think the Caps did great.
I think the Caps did really well to improve their depth, 3rd line talent, faceoffs, penalty killing, veteran leadership, and free up cap space at the end of the season. It looks like Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, & Phoenix also did really well.
Thoughts?

The Wings may have done well by standing pat, if they can string a late season push (to get into the playoffs) together. It looks like they are healthy, but Babcock seems intent on sticking with Jimmy Howard (who cannot string 2 wins together in a row to save his life). Time is running out for them, & they better get their shit together.

I think Boston did well by unloading the malcontents. Now they can focus on winning and getting into the playoffs and not worry about the guys who aren't motivated to get out of bed.
Phoenix was a loser at the deadline by going out and doing too much.
Washington was a winner on deadline day for all the things Jeff mentioned.
I think Detroit missed out on getting Giggy a few weeks ago and that was a big mistake. There were no top flight goaltenders available so it's probably just as well that they didn't do anything because that was their biggest weakness going into the playoffs.
The Habs, Rangers and Islanders all blew it by standing pat and that will likely cost all of them playoff spots. Ottawa isn't going to collapse this year so they need to stop hoping for it.
The Laffs won BIG in almost all of the trades they have made in the last 3 weeks. They finally have some semblance of depth and their goaltending woes are over.

It looks like Howard has been playing pretty well the last month, isn't he better than Osgood at this point?

They haven't lost a game since three days before this post.

The Thrashers had a good run after the Tkachuk trade and won their division a few years ago, how'd that work out? Morris is just as much of a malcontent as Keith was and come playoff time he won't feel like getting out of bed.

Lee Freaking Stempniak - nine goals in ten games since the trade. He had 14 goals in 62 games with the Leafs

Teh Laffs need an IMPACT player and Stemp wasn't that guy. At least they solved their goaltending problems. Their bottom line for next year will be free agent season.

The -
Trade deadline winners & losers
Thread - seems appropriate for this
The sale of the financially crippled franchise to Jerry Reinsdorf has hit enough difficulty that the suburban city of Glendale, which holds the arena lease for the Coyotes, has gone back, cap in hand, to the bidders it flatly rejected last month.
Several reports say Glendale officials have asked the group of Canadian and American businessmen known as Ice Edge Holdings LLC to revisit negotiations for the team.
