I got to listen to my chat with Pooldoc on SNR from Thanksgiving night. I just realized that he mentioned the "GC" and I did not respond to it. FYI-- the GC was the "Golden Circle" of SC#1 and Elba. A lot of the newbies thought there was a secret elite echelon of members on those boards and on the IRC #jimrome chat. We obliged by going along with it, even had Ed in West LA as the "Secretary of the GC."
The IRC #jimrome chat channel did have different levels of "OPS". One reason for the total meltdown in those days was that people began to abuse their "power" banning others left and right until it got out of hand. This board seems to have found the right balance to keep the real tards in their place.

I missed SCI but I swear on a stack of back issues of JUGS that I NEVER abused my [ban] powers in SCIII except for banning season which runs from January through December...

I'll take your word for it. The demise of SC3 was almost as epcot as Elba going down the toilet. The thermonuclear war that
destroyed the island set the standard for a board blow up !

Steve locked a bunch of old thread so that idiots would stop bumping them back to the top.

It was a public service thing.

For once I'll have to agree with you.  Oh, and what made Elba special was what killed it.  Namely the very close bonds that formed between posters who didn't really know each other IRL.

And for old times sake...

Ah, the Golden Circle. If I recall, Tibbs (anyone remember him?) came up with the term when I was accusing him and a few others of being secret society elitists on #jimrome irc. He said something like 'what do you think there is some kind of Golden Circle?' and thus a myth was spawned.

Yes, Elba was a very good place in its day.

That was "Mr.Tibbs" a guy from NoCal (I think) and a great story teller. Elba and SC #1 did have some epic posters,
story tellers, and parody spinners. Who can forget death smack and Mal's triplets. Great stuff.

Yeah, "Mr" Tibbs was from NoCal though I can't recall the town. I think some of the sharpest wrt intellect and wit (and what good is intellect w/o wit in SC?) were Jon the Chowd (a regular huge fax winner), Bitter Pat in Pasadena, Tibbs and Jughead.

Oh, and what was more fun than a person who had gotten some Rome show cred to burst into SC and announce "ok clones, Screamin' Mike (or whoever) is here" and instead of being worshiped as he expected, gets pummeled, pilloried and put down by any and all. Most of them didn't hang around very long.
